The Tissue Trio: Déjà Vu Truths, Psychedelic Parsley, and Intimacy Insights
While I'm in bed with a cold, I've channelled my inner Tim Ferris and sent you three things about the brain, herbs and intimacy that struck me last week.
First of all, I must apologise to you. Last week I raved a thousand plus one words about "Weightless" – the song that is supposed to beat anxiety. And then what happened? The link to the song played hide and seek. At least for some of you. Technology is a b**** sometimes. So here is the link in all its glory. Give it another go and let the song do the work.
That being said, this week is a bit of a mixed bag. The metro gifted me a cold and while I’m typing and sneezing and typing and sneezing I thought I channel my inner Tim Ferris (yes, call me copycat - but it’s also called learn from the best”) and leave you with three content gems that inspired me last week. Only three because all good things come in threes, right? Okay, wisdom doesn't get any better with a runny nose. So let's just get started.
👑 An Article That Shattered My Dream of a Former Life as a Queen
This week, the newsletter by
caught my eye. He's a trauma therapist, a neuroscientist and, boy, an exceptional storyteller. With just one article he burst my bubble on the whole idea of déjà vu as evidence of my past lives. As a queen. Or a waitress. 😭 He presents a fascinating neuroscience-backed explanation of what really happens in our brains during a déjà vu. And answers questions like what a memory is and how we reproduce it. I If you're into neuro-nerdy content, this is for you.
🌿 A Herb That Surprised Me: Parsley, You Little Psycho
Yeah, you heard that right. While it’s commonly known that some mushrooms can let you dance with the pink elephants, I didn’t know that my curly green friend from the supermarket as well. According to the "Encyclopaedia of Psychoactive Plants," this seemingly innocent herb is "mildly arousing, intoxicating, and possibly slightly hallucinogenic" due to a compound called myristicin. The catch? Well, you’d need to consume it in unpalatable quantities for any significant effect. But still, it puts a whole new spin on my parsley garnished salads.
💕 A Quote That Made Me Think About Dating and Intimacy
In our swipe-right, swipe-left culture, online dating can feel like navigating a minefield of coloured flags. Red, green and everything in between. But ultimately, we're all looking to connect, feel safe and be intimate. But which is the right way, which comes first? Margot Anand, a French psychotherapist and neo-tantra teacher, offers a perspective that I'm still pondering.
"Forget about sex. Just play first. Dance, sing, read to each other, breathe together – communicate. Don't count on sex to be the door to intimacy. It's the other way around: first develop intimacy skills. Then make love to enjoy them." - Margot Anand -
I’ll leave you this and go back to tissue box number two.
Have a wonderful rest of the week.
Cheers,
Katie
