Holiday Greetings from Mallorca ๐ ๐๏ธ
I don't have an audio message for you this week because I'm spending more time in the water than on land. But instead I brought you some exciting facts about the sea and well-being.
Hi folks,
this is going to be a short post because tadaaaaa... I'm on an island. Mallorca to be exact.
This Balearic island is known for many things, the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, the landscape and... as a second home for Germans. This is probably why it took me so long to get here. The awful images of either "binge-drinking" or "wearing socks in flip-flops" kind of Germans creeped me out.
But hey, here I am and let me tell you, it's a stunningly beautiful island and the best part is, I can't tell you how happy I am to be reunited with the love of my life: the sea.
I'm an ocean lover. There's nothing I like better than standing close to the shore, listening to the waves, smelling the salty air and just breathing. I feel 100 per cent connected - physically, mentally and spiritually.
And there are so many mind-body techniques and practices I want to explore that work with water or take place in the ocean, such as water rebirthing or floating in a tank. (If any of you have any tips for new experiences, techniques - please let me know).
But for now, I'll leave you with three facts about the effects of the ocean on your body - and why sometimes even staring at an aquarium might help.
1. Looking at water decreases blood pressure and heart rate
Ha, I knew it. Recent research has shown that just looking at water can lower your blood pressure and heart rate. In the study, 32 people looked at a swimming pool, a tree in a car park and a road sign over a busy road. And boom, the water won the race. Take that, my little tree-huggers ;)
2. Aquarium does the trick, too!
Iโm a lucky b*tch to get the full dose of vitamin sea right now. Sitting at the beach, taking a plunge, swim, dive, smelling the salty air, listening to the sound of the waves โ the whole delicious body mind menu. But even if you sit in the office right now and working yourself through a stressful work period, I have something for you.
A recent study found that observing an aquarium for at least 10 minutes can significantly lower blood pressure and heart rate as well. So you just have to buy an aquarium, or better: go to a public one. Or, well, now my free wildlife thing is kicking in. Hmmโฆ. maybe just look at a full bath tub or mediate over a water bottle. Whatever you do, watch the water! (instead of netflix)
3. Ocean waves produce pink noise
Another thing I love about days at the beach is that after a nice swim, I love to lie there and listen to the waves - and well, it may have happened that I have fallen asleep ;)
The sound of the waves is like a lullaby, and as I looked around the beach today, I think many of you can relate.
But what I've recently learned is that one of the reasons is that the ocean produces pink noise. Not white noise. Pink noise! Which apparently has more power in the lower frequencies and can help improve your sleep, scientists have found. 1
So my dears, I send you salty greetings from the sea ๐๐๐
Cheers from a very happy Katie!
